Nottingham Forest, Stuart Attwell’s Luton link and a social media melodrama
The Athletic
Everton's win was quite heavily overshadowed on Sunday by a number of questionable decisions on Nottingham Forest's X account.
A strongly worded post and a very public back-and-forth between them and the PGMOL, the body that represents match officials in England, made it all feel a bit like a pantomime.
The Athletic's Philip Buckingham, Paul Taylor and Matt Slater tried to make sense of the latest episode of the Premier League soap opera — check it out below.

Well, where to start with Everton's last match?
First and foremost, they got a huge victory against relegation-battling rivals Nottingham Forest thanks to goals from Idrissa Gueye and Dwight McNeil.
But even Everton fans would feel they were perhaps fortunate not to concede at least one penalty.
A trio of separate incidents involving Ashley Young were referred to VAR and, on each occasion, the onfield decision of no penalty was upheld.
Joy for Everton, despair for Forest.
Jurgen Klopp's final Merseyside derby

A big night for so many reasons becomes even bigger when you consider that it is Klopp's last Merseyside derby.
The German will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season and I think we can pretty safely rule him out of the running for the Everton job in the future.
Coming into today, he has overseen 18 Merseyside derbies and has only suffered one defeat — a 2-0 Premier League loss at Anfield in February 2021.
Here are the stats from the 18 meetings.
- Liverpool wins: 11
- Draws: 6
- Everton wins: 1
- Liverpool goals: 30
- Everton goals: 11
- Premier League meetings: 16
- FA Cup meetings: 2 (both won by Liverpool)
Early Liverpool team news

Liverpool have been dealt another injury blow, just as it looked as though they were nearing a fully fit squad.
Klopp confirmed yesterday that Diogo Jota was injured after scoring against Fulham on Sunday and he will now miss two weeks of the run in.
Joel Matip is out for the season with a knee injury, there is still no sign of Thiago Alcantara and Conor Bradley is targeting the start of next month for a return to training after an ankle injury.
Early Everton team news

Everton may be without the two first-choice strikers for this one as they were both injured in Sunday's victory against Nottingham Forest.
Beto will certainly not play as he left the pitch on a stretcher following a significant blow to the head. The Premier League's concussion protocols mean that he will also miss the weekend's game.
Sean Dyche, meanwhile, is hopeful Dominic Calvert-Lewin will be available today after a minor knee injury curtailed his involvement against Forest.
Elsewhere, Seamus Coleman (groin) will miss out as will Nathan Patterson (hamstring), Dele Alli (hip) and Lewis Dobbin (ankle).

Goodison Park
Capacity: 39, 572
This may well be the penultimate Premier League Merseyside derby played at Goodison Park as Everton await their move into the new stadium being built dock-side in Liverpool.
It may be the last if they are unable to stay up this season.
Either way, it is going to be an absolute bear pit in there later as they face off against Jurgen Klopp for the final time.
