I am all about the no-bake recipes in the summertime (let’s be honest, any time)! And not just because it keeps the oven off, although that’s definitely a perk…

The truth is: I am L-A-Z-Y. If there’s a corner to be cut, you can betcha I’ll take it.

I like to think I’m lazy, because I’m just so tired from working so hard. So… you know. There’s that theory, if you want to take it.

The great thing about this post is that I’m actually giving you TWO ways to be lazy and still make something pretty awesome.

Oreo truffles are bomb diggity. The center is made up of two simple ingredients: cream cheese and a package of your favorite Oreos, all coated in Ghirardeli chocolate candy melts (you can use any brand, really, but that’s my favorite) and topped with sprinkles! These truffles are creamy on the inside, crunchy on the outside, and chocolate-y all over. Everybody loves these all year round (definitely be sure to add these to your Christmas cookie plates!), and best of all: they are super, ridiculously easy to make.

Especially when you use my fool-proof, no fail, easy-peasy, no-mess dipping method (that even comes with a no extra dirty dishes option if you melt the chocolate coating in a paper bowl)!!

So many of us dread making truffles and cake balls, no matter how much we like to eat them, because nobody wants to slave away, splattering chocolate all over the kitchen, over a lumpy coating and not-so-cute puddles of chocolate under each truffle. Ugh. And then there’s the clean up. #killmenow

Wellp. Lazy me found a way around all that! Annnnnnnnd, I even made you a step-by-step photo tutorial in video form! I could just tell you how I do it, but it really is so much easier to explain visually.

So….. just watch the video 😉 And enjoy!

Oreo Truffle FAQ

Can I use regular chocolate chips instead of melting candy?

You can, but the truffles will be a different texture and won’t look as pretty. Melting candy gives them a nicer coating and sheen.

My dipping method isn’t working, my chocolate keeps breaking! HELP!

Make sure the balls are completely frozen before dipping. If they’re not frozen, the chocolate will break and you’ll be very frustrated. And then you’ll cry. I’m here for you, so don’t cry.

Can I make these ahead of time?

Yes! You can freeze them after rolling them into balls, before dipping in chocolate. Just be sure to thaw them completely before serving.

Can I use different flavors of Oreos?

Yes! You can use any flavor of Oreo you’d like. My favorite is the Double Stuf variety, but I’m biased because those are my favorite cookies ever. 🙂

*If you don’t want to use toothpicks, you can use a fork instead. Just be sure to dip quickly or the heat from your hand will melt the chocolate!

Oreo Truffles {plus a Truffle Dipping Tutorial}

Yield: approximately 30 truffles

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces cream cheese
  • 18 ounce package Oreos
  • pinch of salt
  • 2 cups chocolate melting candy (like Candiquik, Ghirardeli, Hershey's, or Wilton's)
  • Optional: additional melting candy for drizzling, sprinkles
  • approximately 30 toothpicks*

Instructions

  1. Crush the Oreos in a food processor or blender to form fine crumbs.
  2. Use a stand mixer to mix together the Oreo crumbs, the cream cheese, and the pinch of salt until there are no loose crumbs and no visible white from the cream cheese.
  3. Prepare a cookie sheet by lining it with parchment paper, wax paper, or silicone.
  4. Use a small cookie scoop (about 1 tbsp) to scoop out balls of the "dough" onto the cookie sheet. Place cookie sheet in the freezer for 30 minutes (this is important!).
  5. Remove the cookie sheet from the freezer and roll each ball between your palms to smooth and round. Place cookie sheet back in the freezer for 5 minutes.
  6. Melt the melting chocolate according to package directions. Dip* each ball into the melted chocolate, allowing excess chocolate to drip off, and place on a fresh piece of parchment paper, wax paper, or silicone to cool and harden.
  7. Drizzle with additional melting candy and add sprinkles before the drizzle hardens.
